The epicenter of the M=8.2 earthquake and its aftershocks did occur off shore Northwestern part of New Guinea inside the area of the M8 alarm as on January 1996 (highlighted circles), but outside the rectangular area (highlighted) where it was more likely according to the MSc algorithm.
